Baseball’s International Signing Period began yesterday and the Pirates made a splash by signing three players ranked in the Top 100 of young international prospects. They include:
- Slugging corner outfielder Jeancer Custodio, who’s rated number 7;
- Shortstop Wilton Guerrero Jr., who is rated number 17 and whose dad played parts of eight seasons in MLB, mostly with the Dodgers and Expos. He is also the nephew of Hall of Fame outfielder Vladmir Guerrero and the cousin of Blue Jays All-Star first baseman Vlad Guerrero Jr.
- And the Bucs signed shortstop Alexander Pio, who is ranked just outside the Top 50 (the rankings list the top fifty individually and just describe the next 50 in general placement terms. )
They are part of an international class of 25 prospects signed by the Pirates.
