The Penguins took a third straight loss last night, still struggling to find offense against the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning. Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
The Penguins’ only goal of the shootout was by Egor Chinakhov, with Rickard Rakell and Sidney Crosby failing (Crosby not even getting off a shot when he mishandled the puck.) Silovs gave up two goals and has allowed 11 on 16 shots in shootouts this season.
Coach Dan Muse says the Pens continue to struggle to clog the ice in front of the opponents’ goaltender.
Despite Silovs falling short in the shootout, Muse says the rookie goaltender was the reason the Penguins had a chance to win.
Before the game, the Penguins placed defenseman Erik Karlsson on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury. He will be evaluated, the teams says, in two weeks. He’d never missed a game with the Penguins, playing 208 straight since being acquired in 2023. Defenseman Ryan Graves was recalled along with forward Tristan Broz. Forward Bryan Rust returned to the lineup after missing two games over the weekend.
Having scored only two goals in their last three games, the Pens play the Flyers tomorrow night at PPG Paints Arena.
