The Pirates made another move yesterday, adding some spring training depth to the system. Reliever Chase Shugart was traded to the Phillies for minor league third baseman Francisco Loreto, an 18-year-old who hit .237 with five home runs in the Florida Complex League last season. Shugart was designated for assignment last Friday after the Pirates signed first baseman Ryan O’Hearn.
The trade comes a day after the Pirates signed former Astros All-Star reliever Chris Devenski to a minor league deal.

The St. Louis Cardinals finally traded third baseman Nolan Arenado after a year of trying, shipping the ten-time Gold Glove winner to the Diamondbacks for pitching prospect Jack Martinez. Arizona also gets $31 million from the Cards to help pay the $42 million owed Arenado for the next two seasons.
