Earlier this week, Pennsylvania Senators reelected Kim Ward from Westmoreland County as the as the President Pro Tempore of the legislative body.
Ward was first elected to the top leadership post for the 2023-24 legislative session and previously served as the Senate Republican leader. The Senate’s operating rules required the chamber to elect a new leader at the start of each session, and that person is tasked with presiding over the chamber when the Lieutenant Governor is absent. She will also be responsible for appointing members and referring legislation to the Senate’s standing committees.
She was nominated for the post by current Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman from Indiana County, and she received support from fellow senators on both sides of the aisle.
