An explosion sparked a fire and destroyed a building in Young Township Wednesday afternoon.
Iselin-West Lebanon Fire Department officials said that the call went out at 2:51 PM yesterday for an area on Cemetery Road, with Coal Run-McIntyre, Saltsburg, Tunnelton, Elderton, Kiski Area and Aultman fire departments sent out about 15 minutes later. Crews were on the scene within two minutes and found a large amount of fire and additional explosions along with a large debris field. Crews were able to knock down the fire with crews working from above and on the ground. Multiple tankers were requested due to water supply issues, and crews also had to deal with a lot of hot spots due to flying burning debris over a three-acre area.
Officials say that maintenance projects were going on when the property owner ran away before the explosions. No injuries were reported. Creekside, North Apollo and New Alexandria fire departments were sent out to provide standby detail.
