Westmoreland County commissioners are moving to end the providing of health benefits to retired nonunion county employees.
Commissioners and County Controller Jeffrey Balzer have voted unanimously to end the benefit as it relates to new employees. Folks who were already on the payroll prior to January 1st will remain eligible to buy into the county’s healthcare coverage after retirement.
Authorities say the change could save as much as three-point-five-million dollars each year.
