State police have released statistics for the five-day Christmas holiday driving period.
Troopers had enhanced patrols for a five-day span between December 24th and the 28th. Across the commonwealth, troopers investigated 1007 crashes. Four of those crashes were fatal, and six people were killed. 137 people were reported injured in the five-day span. 53 crashes in Pennsylvania were DUI-related, but none of the fatalities came from DUI crashes. Police made 207 DUI-related arrests, issued 1502 speeding tickets and 155 seat belt citations. Ten child safety seat violations were also recorded.
Last year over a three-day span, police investigated 598 crashes, and there were no fatal crashes reported. 92 people were hurt, and there were 27 DUI-related crashes. Police last year also made 128 DUI arrests, issued 805 speeding tickets, 90 seat belt citations and 13 child seat citations.
No word yet on statistics for State Police in Troop A, which covers most of Indiana and Westmoreland and all of Cambria and Somerset Counties
