The Penguins will start 2026 with a New Year’s night game against Atlantic Division leader Detroit at PPG Paints Arena, and it will be the Pens’ second of three straight game against first-place teams. After beating Metro Division leader Carolina on Tuesday and playing the Red Wings tonight, they will visit Detroit on Saturday.
Airtime tonight will be 6 o’clock on 92.5 FM, U92.
Yesterday, Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas swung his second trade in two days, acquiring 25-year-old defenseman Egor Zamula from Philadelphia in exchange for forward Philip Thomasino. Both players started the season with their parent clubs before being sent to the AHL. Zamula will be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. Thomasino will be a restricted free agent after the season.
For the second time this season, defenseman Ryan Graves has cleared waivers and been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He was sent down to clear a roster spot for forward Yegor Chinakhov, who was acquired from Columbus on Monday.
MCDONALD PASSES
Former Penguins two-time All-Star forward Lowell McDonald passed away at age 84 at his home in Nova Scotia on Sunday. A member of the Pens’ famed “Century Line” along with Syl Apps and Jean Pronovost, McDonald played parts of seven of his thirteen NHL seasons in Pittsburgh. He scored 140 of his career 180 goals as a Penguin, and was the team’s first Masterton Trophy Award winner, for “perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.”
