Joan Marie Harclerode passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
She was born September 7, 1945 to Samuel and Gertrude (Stevens) Passanita in Dysart, Pennsylvania.
Joan was a member of Saint Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church where she was an active member of The Saint Clare Fraternity of The Franciscans. She hosted Bible Studies throughout her time in Punxsutawney. She was also active with the soup kitchen at the church where she cooked and delivered soup, bread and cookies to various residents throughout the community. Joan enjoyed being active with the church and she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Joan was a loving and caring individual who loved her family and her husband dearly.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph C. Harclerode, three children; Joseph C. Harclerode II and wife Michelle, NY, Michele M. Thompson and husband Rodney, DuBois, and Melanie A. Nystrom and husband Shawn, Kane, eight grandchildren; Joseph C. Harclerode III, Jenna Harclerode, Jessica Harclerode, Caylee Thompson, Cameron Thompson, Alyse Nystrom, Cooper Nystrom, and Tucker Nystrom, three great grandchildren; Jaxon Artman, Cole Artman and Elliott Menteer, a sister, Dorothy Baker, Cresson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers; Samuel, Ronald and Robert Passanita.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Saint Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, Punxsutawney, with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo, Celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., of Punxsutawney has been entrusted with the arrangements.
