Governor Josh Shapiro will become the highest-paid governor in the country on New Year’s Day after an automatic statewide salary increase takes effect.
Shapiro’s pay will rise to about 253-thousand dollars following three-point-three percent cost-of-living adjustment required under Pennsylvania law. The same increase applies to other statewide elected officials, department heads, and members of boards and commissions.
State lawmakers received a similar mandated raise earlier this month under a system designed to prevent legislators from voting themselves pay increases.
