With Winter well under way across the commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is urging residents to prepare now for possible power outages and dangerous conditions.
Storms could bring heavy snow, ice, strong winds, and bitter cold. The PUC recommends charging phones and medical devices, stocking flashlights, batteries, food, water, and medications, and staying informed through weather alerts and utility updates.
If the power goes out, report the outage directly to your utility company and stay far away from downed power lines, which should always be assumed live. Never try to clear trees or debris near lines, and avoid calling 9-1-1 for outages unless there’s an immediate danger.
Residents are also asked to slow down and give utility crews space as they work to restore service.
Utilities statewide have activated storm response plans, with extra crews and equipment ready as conditions worsen.
