Earlier this week, Governor Josh Shapiro signed some bills into law, including one that amends the unemployment compensation.
House Bill 274 will make it easier for victims of domestic violence to receive unemployment benefits. Before this bill, it was required for a person leaving work due to domestic violence to wait until the separation from employment is adjudicated to be eligible for benefits and in many situations, that could take months. Now, a victim of domestic abuse can provide confidential evidence on their initial application to prove they left work because of domestic violence. Employers will not have to pay charges related to the claim.
