Brandon Lowe hit 31 home runs for Tampa Bay last season, 28 of them to right field or right-center, which happens to be the sweet spot for homers at PNC Park. Lowe held a video chat with reporters yesterday and said he is looking forward to splashing a few balls into the Allegheny River. After playing his first eight MLB season with the Rays, he was traded to Pittsburgh last Friday.
Lowe says the Bucs have the talent to make the playoffs, and he fits into the lineup well.
Lowe says PNC Park is a good match for his bat.
Tampa Bay has always been noted for its loose, upbeat clubhouse. Lowe says that kind of atmosphere helps teams win, and winning feeds into the feel of a clubhouse.
Lowe says he’s a big fan of Bryan Reynolds and has already held several conversations with the Pirates’ star. He’s looking forward to slotting into the number two spot in the batting order between Oneil Cruz and Reynolds.
Colin Beazley of the Post-Gazette reports the Pirates have had “multiple virtual meetings” with representatives for Japanese corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto. The 29-year-old slugger played only 69 games last season because of a major elbow injury suffered in a collision at first base, yet he still hit 15 home runs. Okamoto’s posting window will close on January 4th at 5 PM.
