UPDATE at 8:55 AM: Four people were displaced by this morning’s fire in the town of Climax. The two-story “mining house” is considered a total loss. Clyde Fire officials believe a hot water tank was responsible for the fire.
One elderly resident was taken to IRMC for observation due to smoke inhalation. No firefighters were hurt. Crews were on the scene for over five hours.
WHAT WAS FIRST REPORTED
Ten fire departments were sent to the scene of a structure fire this morning in West Wheatfield Township.
The call came in at 3:31 this morning, according to Indiana County 911 for a fire on a property on Climax Road between New Florence and Robinson. Crews from the Clyde, New Florence, Bolivar, Fairfield, Blairsville, Coral-Graceton and Armagh-East Wheatfield fire departments were sent out initially along with the county EMA team and Citizen’s Ambulance. Black Lick, Brush Valley and Seward firefighters were dispatched a few minutes later to assist on-scene.
Details on the fire are not yet available.
That was the second structure fire in a 24-hour span, as crews from Indiana, Marion Center and Creekside fire department were sent to a home on Kunkle Road at 7:03 AM Sunday. Creekside fire officials said on the department’s Facebook page that they saw smoke coming from inside the house and opened up the walls. They found that the fire had spread into the wall and ceiling with very minor damage. Crews were able to ventilate the house and make sure the fire was fully extinguished. Officials credited the family’s dog with waking the homeowners when it smelled smoke.
