After announcing a property ownership scam earlier this week, Indiana County’s Recorder of Deeds and Register of Wills office has heard from a large number of people concerned for their properties.
In an interview earlier this week on Indiana in the Morning, Recorder of Deeds Maria Jack said that her office received word of some out-of-state scammers calling local realtors and claiming they had property for sale, and were almost able to get the sale through. Jack said that the scammers were focusing on vacant lots or properties that were not frequently visited.
Since that interview, Jack says her office has been inundated with calls about the free property alert program. She advises everyone to log on to the County Recorder of Deeds, Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphan’s Court website for instructions on how to join.
Jack will be a guest on Indiana in the Morning with Todd Marino at 9:10 Monday on WCCS.
