Quick-thinking neighbors are credited with saving a 94-year-old woman from a late-night house fire Tuesday in McCalmont Township, Jefferson County.
According to Jefferson County Fire Wire, Emergency crews were dispatched just before 10:30 p.m. to a residence on the Graffius Avenue Extension near Punxsutawney, where firefighters were able to contain the blaze within about an hour. While 911 officials reported the home is a total loss, the elderly resident was able to escape the burning structure safely before crews arrived thanks to the assistance of neighbors.
No injuries were reported, and a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.
