Indiana University of Pennsylvania honored one of its most decorated alumni during its 2025 Veterans Day Dinner.
Lt. Col. Barry Gasdek, an IUP graduate and recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross and numerous other military honors, served as the keynote speaker. The event also featured the unveiling of a commissioned portrait in his honor, now on display at IUP. The annual dinner included presentation of the Theta Chi Heroes Memorial Scholarship. This year’s recipient is Fox Vanleer, a history major from Indiana and a graduate of Indiana Area High School. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll highlighted the university’s deep military ties, noting the 75th anniversary of ROTC at IUP and the school’s 150th anniversary.
Gasdek, a Vietnam War veteran and retired Army officer, thanked the university, saying he was humbled to be honored alongside fallen service members and inspired by IUP’s continued commitment to veterans and future leaders.
