BOYS BASKETBALL
The Heritage Conference East is shaping up to be a real battle, with two teams still undefeated. There were three unbeatens entering play last night, but two of them played each other, with Conemaugh Township handing Conemaugh Valley its first loss, 65-60. Neither team provided stats.
The other unbeaten team is United, which last night threw down 12 three-pointers and knocked off Northern Cambria, 68-36. Carter Payne scored 20 points, Dmitri Worthington 13, and Ryan Felix 10 for the Lions. For the Colts, Zach Cavallo scored 16.
United will play Conemaugh Valley on Thursday and Conemaugh Township next Monday.
River Valley took control early and raced past Homer-Center, 71-35. Max Persichetti led the way with 19 points, and Nick Mortimer and Jeremy Reed each added 10. No players reached double figures for Homer-Center, which was led by Nash Budner’s 9.
Kamden Rozier scored 27 points to lead Marion Center to a 62-38 win over West Shamokin. The Stingers pulled away with a big second quarter, when they outscored the Wolves, 30-11. Hayden Fox and Tyler Pack both had 11 for MC. For West Shamokin, Alex Talmadge hit five threes and finished with 22 points.
Three Portage players scored in double figures as the Mustangs topped Cambria Heights, 62-44. Lleshon Walker led the way with 15, Braylin Walker had 12 and Tyson Burkett had 10. For the Highlanders, Levi Kline scored 11.
A tough one for Indiana, which fell to 4-3, 1-1 in Section 2(5A) with a 55-51 loss to Kiski Area. Darius Webb scored 19 for Indiana, Aaron Webb 15 and Will Olsen 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
No problem for Indiana last night as they improved to 7-0 with a 41-18 Section win over Kiski Area. Laken Kugler scored 15 points and Julia Antonacci 11 for Indiana.
WRESTLING
Bellwood Antis beat United, 43-23. United winners were Josef Garshnick, Jacob McConville, and Max McConville, all by fall, and Connor Riffer by technical fall.
In a girls meet, United defeated Bellwood Antis, 18-6. Winners on the mat for the Lions were Chloe Stiles, Sophie Long, and Addison Hill, all by fall.
RIFLE
Indiana beat Avella, 787-39x to 773-29x. Top shooters for Indiana were Gavin Dicken with a 100-6x, and Chloe Williams with a 100-5x.
