Major League Baseball’s Draft Lottery will be held today. The White Sox have the best odds of landing the number one overall pick at 27.73 percent. The Pirates have third-best odds at 16.81 percent. The Colorado Rockies, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels are not eligible to win the lottery this season. For the Rockies, it is due to picking in each of the past two lotteries while receiving revenue sharing, while the Nationals and Angels pay into revenue sharing and picked in the lottery last season.
The draft lottery is part of today’s session of Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings. Free agent first baseman Pete Alonso is reportedly in attendance in Orlando and is set to meet with the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. Alonso hit .272 with 38 home runs and 126 RBIs this season with the New York Mets. In other news, ESPN reported that Kyle Schwarber could be the first high-profile free agent off the market. The Phillies, Reds, Pirates and Mets have been linked to Schwarber.
