With the Washington Capitals breathing down their necks in the Metro Division standings, the Penguins had to overcome more mental breakdowns and try to snap a four-game losing streak yesterday. Somehow, they did it.

REACTIONS:
Coach Mike Sullivan said after the game that Sidney Crosby showed again the true qualities of a leader.
Sullivan says the Penguins have been scuffling, but they’re still confident.
With Crosby hooking up with Rickard Rakell for two goals yesterday, Sullivan says the coaches have taken note of the chemistry between the two.
Crosby says the Penguins have been anxious to get a win with the standings tightening up. The Capitals are only two points behind with a game in hand.
Crosby’s overtime goal was his 1,400th career point, but he says it wasn’t about personal milestones yesterday.
Rakell said he was going to take the shot himself in overtime, but saw the Predators coming at him, which allowed him to slip the puck to Crosby.
Rakell says he is settling in nicely with the Penguins since his trade last month.
Injured forward Brock McGinn skated on his own again yesterday. He’s missed the last 14 games with a right hand or arm injury.
The Penguins are waiting to see if Evgeni Malkin will be suspended for an altercation with the Predators’ Mark Borowiecki in the second period. Malkin slashed the stick out of Borowiecki’s hands, then cross-checked him in the mouth, knocking out some teeth. Borowiecki did not return to the game.
The Pens host the New York Islanders tomorrow night, then travel to New York to play the Islanders again on Thursday night.
