The Pirates fell behind again in the first inning yesterday, but then rallied in a big way, thanks to Michael Chavis and Diego Castillo.

Manager Derek Shelton is happy that infielder Diego Castillo, the Bucs’ hottest hitter in spring training, has continued to rake it at the start of the season.
Shelton says the Pirates’ defense was outstanding throughout the game.
Chavis hit the grand slam that put the Pirates in the lead. He says he went to the plate not feeling any added pressure to get a hit.
The Pirates called up star pitching prospect Roansy Contreras from Indianapolis over the weekend. Even though he is a starting pitcher, Shelton says Contreras will work out of the bullpen at first as the entire team works on stretching out its pitchers’ arms early in the season.
The series concludes this afternoon in St. Louis. It’s a 1:50 airtime on WCCS. Righthander Zach Thompson starts for the Pirates against Cards’ righty Dakota Hudson.
