Pennsylvania lawmakers are sharing their reaction to the shooting of two National Guard officers in Wahsington, DC.
Authorities say the suspect, an Afghan national who has not been named, shot two guard members while they were on patrol in what’s being called a “targeted” attack, leaving them in critical condition. The suspect is also being treated at a local hospital for injuries. President Donald Trump called the attack an “act of terror,” and suggested his administration will more heavily scrutinize immigrants from Afghanistan.
Governor Josh Shapiro said in a social media post that “As the Commander in Chief of the [Pennsylvania National Guard] and a proud American, I am deeply grateful for their service and praying for them and their families”. He said that he and his family’s prayers are with those who were shot.
Sen. John Fetterman called the shooting “awful and tragic,” while fellow Senator Dave McCormick said “This horrific act of violence against the brave military men and women protecting our nation’s capital can never be tolerated.”
