Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly media appearance today, and he’s expected to provide updates on several injured players, including linebacker Alex Highsmith, who missed last Sunday’s game against the Bears, and offensive tackle Broderick Jones, who left the game because of a “stinger” in his neck.
In the locker room at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex yesterday, several Steelers vowed to fight to the finish, mindful of the fact that despite losing four of their last six games, they still are tied with Baltimore for the AFC North lead, both with 6-5 records.
Running back Kenneth Gainwell says the Steelers are approaching it game-by-game, regardless of the record.
Offensive guard Mason McCormick says they need to pay better attention to the details on every play.
One frustrated ex-Steeler made it onto the national sports shows with his reaction to Sunday’s loss in Chicago. On his Deebo and Joe podcast, a furious James “Deebo” Harrison unloaded on the Steelers’ coaches for twice assigning tight end Darnell Washington as the lone blocker on Bears’ edge rusher Montez Sweat, resulting in a sack and a strip sack of Mason Rudolph. Harrison ranted about the Steelers’ schemes on both sides of the ball, saying the defensive game plan is “trash…it’s garbage.” He called the defense soft, undisciplined, and poorly coached.
Tomlin’s news conference is at noon.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the Steelers have signed defensive tackle Anthony Goodlow to the practice squad. He’s previously been with the Rams and the Cardinals.
