The Pirates tendered Major League contracts to all five of their remaining arbitration-eligible players. Pitchers Dennis Santana, Johan Oviedo, and Justin Lawrence, outfielder Oneil Cruz, and catcher Joey Bart all have until January 8th to work out a deal, although they can continue to negotiate right up until their arbitration hearing.
The Bucs also tendered contracts to all of their 31 non-arbitration players, most of whom are minor leaguers, but some are on the big league club, including Paul Skenes, Henry Davis, Nick Gonzalez, Spencer Horwitz, Jared Triolo, Bubba Chandler, Braxton Ashcraft, Hunter Barco, Jared Jones, Carmen Mlodzinski, and more.
One of the Pirates’ prospects who was tendered a contract on Friday was Altoona star Esmerlyn Valdez, who was named the Arizona Fall League Player of the Year over the weekend. He hit .368 with 8 home runs and 27 RBIs, and led the AFL in homers, RBIs, and slugging percentage.
The San Francisco Giants have signed Pirates minor league free agent pitcher Wilkin Ramos.
