A new state law requires all school-sponsored events that charge admission to accept cash, and the PIAA has enacted a rule change that incorporates the procedure. The law reverses all requirements that patrons pay only by an app, online, or credit or debit card, a policy that many schools had instituted and that the PIAA used for attending playoff games.
The bill that changed the policy was part of a package of bills signed into law by the governor at the same time he signed the state budget deal.
The law does not require that ticket takers provide change, so it’s recommended that event attendees have the exact amount. The law applies to all events, including sports and theater performances, for which admission is charged.
