State Representative Jim Struzzi says the Homer City natural gas power project has cleared a major hurdle. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has approved the site’s air quality permit, allowing redevelopment plans to move forward.
The former Homer City coal-fired power plant—once the largest in the state—closed in 2023. Homer City Redevelopment LLC has since been working on plans to transform the site. Struzzi says the company engaged openly with the public during the permitting process, and he praised the DEP for what he called a fair public comment period.
The redevelopment will turn the 3,200-acre property into the largest natural gas–powered facility in the country, supporting a massive data center campus designed for AI and high-performance computing needs.
More information about the project and the permit is available through DEP and Homer City Redevelopment LLC.
