The Pirates avoided arbitration yesterday, signing outfielder Jack Suwinski and right-handed reliever Yohan Ramirez to one-year contracts. Suwinski hit only .146 with three homers last season. His deal is reportedly for $1.25 million. Ramirez was 3-3 with a 5.40 ERA in 33-and-a-third innings out of the bullpen.
The deadline for non-tender offers for eligible free agents is 8 PM tonight. The Pirates had nine players eligible at the start of the week, but they have already non-tendered Colin Holderman and Dauri Moreta. The six left are Oneil Cruz, Dennis Santana, Joey Bart, Johan Oviedo, and Justin Lawrence.
