More details are emerging about a deadly Saturday shooting in Derry Township. State Police say they were called to a James Street home for a domestic matter — the fifth time they had been called to the residence in the last year. Saturday’s caller reported that her husband was in the basement firing a gun. Twenty-eight-year-old suspect Ryan Huinker confronted officers on the front porch of the home, reportedly refused orders to surrender and was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire.
After the state police finish their investigation, the Westmoreland County DA’s office will perform its own examination of the case to determine if the shooting fell within proper guidelines.
