IUP football coach Paul Tortorella and his Crimson Hawks turn their attention to the NCAA Division II Super Region One playoffs, with a game at George P. Miller Stadium this Saturday against Assumption.
On last night’s edition of Hawk Talk on Renda Digital TV and U92 Radio, Tortorella told Jack Benedict that the 8-2 Greyhounds are a good football team.
The coach says Assumption keys its game around three players, QB Jay Kastanton, RB Kameron Robbins, and WR Connor Smith.
Tortorella says Assumption will be ready for IUP, just as they were when they came to Indiana to play IUP in the 2017 NCAA quarterfinals, when IUP was ranked number one in the nation.
Tortorella says things would not have been substantially different in the NCAA bracket if IUP had beaten top-ranked Kutztown on Saturday, and in the end it doesn’t matter anyway.
The coach is pleased with the leadership of his quarterback, Matthew Rueve, who has had a big year in what will be his only season at IUP.
Tortorella says IUP fans have been tremendous all season long, and the Crimson Hawks are going to need them this Saturday.
Kickoff on Saturday will be at one o’clock. The pregame airs on 92.5 FM U92 at 12:30.
