The Pennsylvania Association of Realtors and the County Office of Planning and Development held a conference yesterday at Chestnut Ridge Resort and Conference Center to talk about the potential housing boom from the project from Homer City Redevelopment.
Topics covered yesterday included an update on the project itself to convert the former coal-fired Homer City Generating Station to a natural-gas fueled power facility and data center, along with opportunities for economic development and housing, short- and long-term housing solutions, and funding sources for housing and commercial projects. Robin Gorman with Homer City Redevelopment said it was a great opportunity to collaborate and find solutions to these issues.
As part of the update on the plan, Gorman said that demolition is continuing at the site, and explosions will continue to be heard as part of the work. They hope everything will be down by the end of December. She also said that there will be a way for people to be notified about future blasts at the campus.
The goal is to have turbines installed sometime next year, and to start producing power in 2027.
