Both Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi and Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman sounded confident yesterday as they held their weekly news conferences ahead of Saturday’s game between the 24th-ranked Panthers and the 10th-ranked Fighting Irish. Both, however, know they have a lot of work ahead of them.
Narduzzi says what sets Notre Dame apart from other supremely talented teams is that the Fighting Irish never stop working.
Both coaches focused on Pitt freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel, who has won all six games he’s started since taking over for Eli Holstein.
Narduzzi says he’s taken a studied approach to Heintschel, who is a true freshman about to start his first national televised game.
Freeman says people have wondered if a game against Pitt is a “trap game,” but he says that Pitt is a legitimate opponent
Freeman says Heintschel doesn’t play like a true freshman, and his teammates seem to have picked up on that.
Kickoff for Pitt/Notre Dame at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday is at noon on WCCS.
