A chance to play for the District 6 championship is on the line this weekend for two Indiana County football teams. Tonight, fifth-seeded Marion Center battles number one Bishop McCort in Class AA. Tomorrow, number four Homer-Center meets number one Bishop Guilfoyle.
At Sargent’s Stadium at the Point in Johnstown, it’s a battle of two explosive offenses as Marion Center brings its 10-1 record into a matchup with 11-0 Bishop McCort. Both teams feature offenses that can run the ball and throw it, and both have swarming defenses.
The Crushers have a huge offensive line, run a two-quarterback system, and love to run the ball between the tackles. And they have depth, dressing just under fifty players tonight.
Stingers coach Adam Rising has told his boys to give it everything they’ve got.
Rising says quarterback Camden Rising’s long passing game, which was a big part of why they rallied to beat Cambria Heights last week, could be affected by the expected wind and rain.
The coach has a lot if speed and power in the backfield and on the outside, but he says the offensive line is the key for Marion Center’s offense.
The other AA semifinal has Richland hosting Bellwood-Antis.
Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 o’clock. You will see it on Renda Digital TV and hear it on 92.5 FM U92, beginning with the S&T Bank Pregame Show at 6:15.
Tomorrow in the Class A semifinal, Homer-Center travels to Hollidaysburg High School, where they will face an old rival, top-seeded Bishop Guilfoyle. The Wildcats are 8-3. The Marauders are 9-2.
Guilfoyle has switched its offensive emphasis to the running game this year but can still throw the ball well with Justin Wheeler leading the offense. Homer-Center’s offense features leading rushers Carson Arone and Gabe Cobaugh. Quarterback Arone throws for over 90 yards per game, spreading the ball around between primary receivers Riley Cobaugh, Caden McAnulty, and Deegan Fedoruk.
Wildcats coach Greg Page says Bishop Guilfoyle will force Homer-Center to play mistake-free football.
Page spoke at last night’s Homer-Center Football Boosters banquet. He knows his whole team, especially his seniors, appreciates them.
In the other Class A semifinal, Claysburg-Kimmel visits Juniata Valley.
Tomorrow’s S&T Bank Pregame Show begins at 4:15, with the game kicking off at 5 on Renda Digital TV and WCCS.
