Pennsylvania’s Attorney General is warning residents to be cautious while shopping for health insurance during open enrollment.
Attorney General Dave Sunday says scammers are creating fake websites that look like official health insurance marketplaces. These sites often try to steal personal information or money from unsuspecting consumers.
Sunday says scammers often tie their schemes to major events or seasonal trends — like open enrollment — to make them seem more believable. He urges anyone shopping for coverage to double-check that they’re on the Commonwealth’s official marketplace, Pennie, which serves about 500,000 Pennsylvania families.
Plans advertised on other websites may not meet federal coverage requirements and could leave consumers with large out-of-pocket costs.
For legitimate information, visit Pennie.com or call 1-844-844-8040. Anyone who believes they’ve been targeted by a health insurance scam can contact the Attorney General’s Health Care Section at 1-877-888-4877 or file a complaint online.
