Some new faces will be seen for some municipal governments come January after Tuesday’s general election.
In Indiana Borough, there will be a new mayor, as Democrat Charles Simelton defeated Bill Simmons by a 233-vote margin. Simelton talks about what he looks forward to as the borough’s mayor.
He also thanked Mayor Simmons for his work and setting the borough up for future success.
On Indiana Borough’s west ward, current council members Luke DeBuyser and Tamara Collazzo were ousted by challengers Kathy Maple and Garrett Milnes in the race for the two four-year seats up for grabs. In the East ward, Nathan Vanderneck and Jonathan Smith won the four-year seats while Betsy Sarneso won the two-year seat that was available.
One new name will be on the Homer Center School Board as Kelly Elliott was one of four candidates to win seats to the board. The other three were incumbents Michael Bertig, Vicki Smith and Alan Shank. Misty Hunt came in 5th in that race. Elliott though announced an intention to not accept the position if she won the election. Her replacement for that position is now up to the Homer-Center School board, as they would be responsible for an appointment.
In Homer City, Kyle Cobaugh won over Arlene Wanatosky in the race for Mayor. Wanatosky was also defeated in the Homer City Council race by Avi Hanridran.
In Center Township, Matt Housholder retained his seat in a close race against Matt Lee, 792-745. He says he hopes to keep the current momentum in the township moving forward.
The Center Township Tax Collector race went to Brenda Smyers Duffy, as she picked up 786 votes to Mary Sardone’s 754.
In the County Coroner’s Race, Jerry Overman, Jr. retained his seat by a margin of over 8400 votes over challenger Cinny Bratton.
All results are unofficial until they are certified by the county elections office.
