The Pirates’ Paul Skenes is one of the three finalists for the National League Cy Young Award, which will be announced next Wednesday. The second-year pitcher was 10-10 with a 1.97 ERA and 216 strikeouts in 187-and-two-thirds innings, and held opposing batters to a .199 average.
The other finalists are the Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Phillies’ Cristopher Sanchez.
For American league Cy Young, Tarik Skubal of the Tigers, Garrett Crochet of the Red Sox and the Astros’ Hunter Brown are the finalists.
The Yankees’ Aaron Judge, Mariners’ Cal Raleigh and Guardians’ Jose Ramirez are the finalists for American League MVP. In the NL, it’s the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani, the Mets’ Juan Soto, and the Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber.
Major League Baseball yesterday announced that the contemporary baseball era committee will retain Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy for consideration for the Hall of Fame, along with newcomers Carlos Delgado, Jeff Kent, Gary Sheffield and Fernando Valenzuela. Albert Belle, Rafael Palmiero, and Curt Schilling dropped off the list.
The committee of sixteen media members will vote on December 7th. A candidate must get 75 percent of the vote in order to make the Hall. Eleven members of the committee determined the nominees for the final vote.
