Seven Heritage Conference teams entered the District 6 playoff fray on Friday night, but only two emerged to play in the semifinals next Friday. One of them dominated and the other pulled off a comeback in dramatic fashion.
No. 5 Marion Center trailed No. 4 Cambria Heights, 22-14, to start the fourth quarter and scored the last 15 points to beat the host Highlanders, 29-22, in the quarterfinal round of the AA bracket. Todd Marino had the recap on Renda Digital TV.
In the single-A quarterfinals, the host No. 4 Homer-Center Wildcats scored on the second play from scrimmage to jump out to a 7-0 lead on No. 5 Moshannon Valley and the Black Knights scored on their second play from scrimmage to cut into the lead. But the Wildcats gradually pulled away for a 30-6 win. Mark Bertig had the recap on WCCS and Renda Digital TV
The season ended for five other conference teams, including River Valley, the highest ranked team from the Heritage to enter the playoffs at No. 3 in AA. No. 6 Bellwood-Antis proved to be too much for the Panthers as the Blue Devils came away with a 42-16 win. Jeff Cribbs had the recap on Cat Country and Renda Digital TV.
No. 7 United Valley exited the AA bracket in a 35-12 loss to No. 2 Richland. Chuck Clark had the recap on U92.5 FM.
Back to single-A, No. 7 Northern Cambria nearly upset No. 2 Juniata Valley, 23-20, and No. 8 Purchase Line was routed by top seed Bishop Guilfoyle, 38-0, in the only District 6 small school shutout of the evening.
Next week, Marion Center will take on Bishop McCort at Point Stadium. We’ll have the game at 6:15 PM on November 7th on U-92.5 FM and Renda Digital TV. On Saturday, Homer-Center will play Bishop Guilfoyle at Holidaysburg High School. Mansion Park, the original site was booked for a 3A championship game and Holidaysburg has a home playoff game on Friday night, so the game was moved to Saturday night. Airtime is 4:15 on Renda Digital TV and WCCS. Kickoff is slated for 5:05.
