No surprises for the Pirates in their postseason minor league awards yesterday. Sensational Altoona Curve shortstop Konnor Griffin was named the Honus Wagner Player of the Year and Bubba Chandler was honored with the Bob Friend Pitcher of the Year award.
Griffin, who is rated the number one prospect in all of baseball by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America, advanced from Bradenton to Greensboro, then to Altoona during the season. He hit a combined .333 with 21 home runs, 94 RBIS, and 65 stolen bases.
Chandler led Pirates minor leaguers and was third in all of baseball in strikeouts, with 121 before his promotion to Pittsburgh. With the Pirates, he went 4-1 with a 4.02 ERA and one save.
