Frank Zellman, Jr., age 86 of Indiana, passed away on September 6, 2017 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Born in 1931 in Ernest, PA to Frank and Mary (Gillis) Zellman, Frank went to Assumption School and graduated from Indiana High School in 1948. He was drafted after high school and served stateside in the United States Army Reserve as a cook during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged.
Frank was a member of the Church of the Resurrection – Ernest Site, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1468 of Indiana, The American Legion of Indiana, and Indiana Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #175.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, he was employed at FMC in Homer City, PA. He enjoyed being retired saying that the only bad thing was when he awoke, he was already “on the job!”
Frank loved hunting, raising beagles for many years that were excellent rabbit dogs, bowling at the Indiana Eagles, gardening (his garlic crop was legendary!), enjoying a stiff drink or a cold beer in good company, and he had a very unique sense of humor. He was sometimes gruff, yet always kind, never uttering a bad word towards anyone. He was always hard working and willing to lend a hand. In his younger days, he played baseball on the Ernest team, he was an Altar Boy and later a Eucharistic Minister at The Church of the Resurrection. He rarely missed mass and was a devoted husband taking care of his ailing wife until the last few days of her life. Frank loved social gatherings with family and friends, and he and his wife, Eileen, were a joy to watch on the dance floor!
He is survived by his children – Mark A. Zellman, Indiana; and Lori A. Miller and husband Rickey, Homer City; granddaughters -Marley Moskel, and Gabrielle Miller; and grandson – Joshua Miller; and sisters – Patricia Zellman and Judy Sisko, Homer City.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 50 years Eileen (Pina) Zellman in 2007, his grandson – Cody Miller, siblings – Gene Zellman, Joan (Andy) Leysock, and brother-in-law Frank Sisko, and his companion Kathleen Vedder.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Church of Resurrection, Ernest, with the Rev. Fr. E. George Saletrik as celebrant.
