PIRATES
The Pirates have hired former Astros coach Bill Murphy as their new pitching coach. The 35-year-old is considered one of the best young pitching coaches in baseball. He’s been with the Astros since 2016, and since 2021 at the Major League level. After a year as an assistant, he was named a co-pitching coach in 2022.
Murphy will have a lot to work with in Pittsburgh, with perhaps the top young staff in baseball, led by Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, Braxton Ashcraft, Bubba Chandler, Johan Oviedo, Mike Burrows, Carmen Mlodzinski, and returning fireballer Jared Jones, along with prospects Hunter Barco, and Thomas Harrington.
The Bucs are expected to trade some of those arms, with Keller considered the leading contender to go in exchange for some offensive firepower.
MLB
The Dodgers’ Mookie Wilson has been named the 2025 recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award for “representing the sport through character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field.”
