State Representative Jim Struzzi and Senator Joe Pittman have released statements concerning the crash on Philadelphia Street on Monday that claimed the lives of two pedestrians.
Both men said that their sympathies go out to the families of those who passed away. Struzzi called Philadelphia Street “the heart of the community” and said that it must be safe for pedestrians, cars and bicyclists. Pittman said that with it being the second fatal vehicle and pedestrian incident this year “a closer look is warranted to determine if any new safety initiatives are needed.” Both have dedicated their support towards that goal.
Senator Pittman’s statement:
“The tragic accident and horrific loss of lives on Philadelphia Street on Monday afternoon has left our community shocked and saddened. Gina and I are praying for all those involved in this distressing situation.
“With this being the second vehicular and pedestrian incident this year, a closer look is warranted to determine if any new safety initiatives are needed. While we have taken great steps in Indiana to make our community pedestrian friendly, I am dedicated to doing anything I can to support the borough and to further enhance safety for the traveling public, whether on foot, bike or in a vehicle.”
State Rep. Struzzi’s statement:
“My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones yesterday due to a fatal crash in Indiana Borough. This incident occurred two blocks away from my district office and is an intersection I cross regularly with my family and office staff.
“Philadelphia Street is the heart of our community. It must be safe for pedestrians, cars and bicyclists. I understand that this tragic incident has increased safety concerns in our community. While the investigation into this accident is ongoing, as your State Representative, I am committed to working with all our transportation partners at the state and local levels to implement any necessary changes as soon as possible.”
