Nearly two million Pennsylvania residents who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are confronting a dual crisis starting November 1, 2025.
The state Department of Human Services has announced that November SNAP payments will be entirely suspended due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, leaving recipients without scheduled food aid. This financial halt comes as a new federal law takes effect, expanding work requirements to a broader group, including adults aged 55-64, certain parents, veterans, and former foster youth, who must now work or train at least 20 hours per week or risk losing future benefits after three months.
Those in need of immediate food assistance are being directed to call 211 or utilize resources from Feeding Pennsylvania.
