Penn State lost its third straight game on Saturday, 22-21, to Northwestern, and the Nittany Lions also lost quarterback Drew Allar to an injury to his lower left leg, bringing an end to his season and likely his college career.
Allar was hurt in the closing moments of the game, trying to run for a first down on third-and-three near midfield with Penn State trying to retake the lead after Northwestern’s Caleb Komolafe had put the Wildcats on top 22-16 on a 9-yard run. Ethan Grunkemeyer replaced Allar and was stopped short of the first down, ending Penn State’s chance of winning.
Coach James Franklin reported that Allar was out for the season but declined to discuss the specifics of the injury.
