The Indiana Area school board meets on Monday, and the board’s Academic & Extracurricular and Outreach committees also meet. One item of interest for those two committees is a scheduled ten-minute presentation by Superintendent Rob Heinrich titled “Possible Solutions to Financial Problem with Cyber School Commitment.” Like many school districts, Indiana Area has struggled with bearing the financial burden of cyber schools. The committee meetings start at 5:30, with the full board meeting at 7.
Purchase Line’s school board will consider adopting a bond issue to finance high school renovations, not to exceed $5.7 million. There is also a list of seven policy revisions and two policy retirements. The board will also take up the addition of two new courses to the high school curriculum. One is a sports nutrition course and the other is a child development exploration course.
United’s school board meets on Tuesday. Homer-Center’s board will meet on Thursday.
The Northern Cambria school board on Wednesday will consider a vote on a cooperative agreement to accept student-athletes from Bishop Carroll Catholic School for football and soccer. Bishop Carroll has pulled out of a similar arrangement with Bishop McCort based primarily on the distance between Ebensburg and Johnstown.
Northern Cambria’s board last Thursday accepted the resignation of Superintendent Alan Johnson, along with the hiring of Johnson to continue in that role as interim superintendent, and the advertisement of the job in the search for his replacement.
The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education will meet on Thursday. The agenda has not yet been posted, but some of the discussion may center on the lack of a state budget and the resultant lack of funds provided for the operation of the state-owned schools.
