Tuesday night, Homer City Borough Council agreed to buy back a firearm from former Police Chief Anthony Jellison.
The council had agreed to get an appraisal to sell Jellison’s gun to him, but Borough Mayor Arlene Wanatosky went ahead and sold Jellison the gun without council’s permission. Council President Joe Iezzi, Sr. said that Jellison approached council about selling the firearm back at the price he bought it at.
The cost was $250 along with a $5 transfer fee. In the meantime, an investigation is ongoing into Wanatosky’s actions by the state ethics commission. Iezzi could not offer an update on that investigation.
In other business, Council decided to delay work on a drainage project for Filbert and Cooper Avenues in Homer City. The project would require 2-3 days of work, the hiring of a contractor and the purchase of 400 feet of 12-inch pipe. The projected cost is approximately $12,000, but the borough does not have the money in this year’s budget to cover it. Council will wait until next spring to address the issue as there have been no issues due to lack of rain.
Finally, it was announced that due to a possible football playoff game on Halloween night, the borough’s annual Halloween parade will be at 5:45 PM on Thursday, October 30th. Trick-or-treating will follow until 8:00 PM.
