Indiana County first responders were called into Armstrong County yesterday for a reported fire that turned out to be a false alarm.
The first call was an automatic fire alarm activation for a location on Route 156 at 4:44 PM. Indiana and Elderton fire departments were initially sent out. At 5:11 PM, it was upgraded to a working commercial fire, and that brought a second call for Indiana Fire Association members along with Iselin and Plumville firefighters. Fire officials said that the incident was at Armstrong Energy, and it was a reported problem with the ventilation system in one of the buildings. Heat from one of the turbines was not properly ventilated, and the heat set off the alarms. Crews were cleared after 45 minutes.
There were also two requests for landing zones. One was set up on Urey Road in Banks Township at 5:21 PM, where Glen Campbell firefighters assisted Jefferson County EMS. The other was at 8:15 PM on Trojan Lane in Conemaugh Township. Saltsburg firefighters were sent out at the time.
