One good thing about the drought that has come through the area is the early spotting of vibrant fall leaf colors.
According to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ weekly fall foliage report, Indiana County is like most of the state in seeing the first changes in leaf colors, with parts of the north and east along with Cambria, Blair and Bedford counties in approaching peak color phase. Bradford County is already in the peak color phase. A handful of counties in the Southeast are seeing no change.
Officials with the department say the long period of dry weather that accompanied the late summer cooldown has accelerated the transition to fall color across the Commonwealth. Fall foliage viewers should expect vivid colors that arrive sooner, but a shorter season overall.
