Jefferson County has issued a mandatory burn ban effective 12:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the request of local fire officials and emergency services.
The ban, which could last up to 30 days, prohibits outdoor burning of materials like garbage, leaves, grass, and paper. Propane and gas stoves, charcoal grills, and tobacco use are permitted, and campfires are allowed only in approved fire rings at licensed campgrounds.
Violators face fines of up to $300 for repeat offenses.
