Westmoreland County officials are preparing to furlough some employees to reduce expenses.
Commissioners estimate that up to 100 county workers could be temporarily laid off due to delays in state funding. Nearly a quarter of the county’s annual budget comes from state contributions, which are currently stalled because of a budget impasse in Harrisburg.
Commissioner Ted Kopas said notices will go out this week to certain non-union employees, with some union workers potentially facing temporary furloughs in the following weeks.
