VOLLEYBALL
In a matchup of the top two teams in the WPIAL AA Section 5 race, Indiana falls to Greensburg Salem, 3-2. The Golden Lions are 9-0, 6-0 in the Section, while Indiana fell to 8-2, 5-1.
Marion Center’s fine season continues in the Heritage Conference West. The Stingers are 8-2 overall, 8-1 in the conference after a tight come-from behind 3-2 win over Northern Cambria. Marion Center took the first set 25-23 but lost the next two, 25-21 and 25-19. They then won the fourth set 25-22 and took the deciding set 15-10.
Alivia Ruddock led the way with 15 kills, 20 digs and a block. Natalie Black had 12 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces, and 3 blocks. Kieler Elkin had 8 kills and 14 digs. Emma Zamborsky had 4 kills, 2 digs, and 25 assists. Reagan Mantini 4 kills, 7 digs; Riayn Miller 2 kills, 6 digs, 1 block; Ainsley Houser 5 digs, 3 aces; Parker Blews 5 digs, 1 ace; Hannah Runk 5 digs.
Northern Cambria won the JV match, 2-0 and the Junior High match, 2-1.
Purchase Line swept United, 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-17. The Red Dragons also took the JV game, 2-0.
BOYS SOCCER
Cambria Heights took a 4-0 lead into halftime and went on to top United, 6-2. Nate Conaway scored three goals for the Highlanders in the first half. Mason Kline had the other first-half score and Stevie Stevens and Carter Bradley made it 6-0 in the second half before Carter Payne connected twice for United. Heights is 6-2-2 while United fell to 1-8.
Indiana fell to Obama Academy, 1-0.
GIRLS GOLF
Indiana High senior Julia Antonacci yesterday shot 100 at Seven Oaks Country Club in Beaver, placing her in a tie for 29th in the WPIAL AAA girls individual championships and earning her the right to play the final round next Wednesday at Sewickley Heights. The top fourteen golfers after the second round will make the PIAA tournament. Currently, Antonacci is ten strokes off the pace for the final spot.
CROSS COUNTRY
Indiana’s boys were fourth of seven teams in the WPIAL Section 1 finals behind Hempfield, Norwin, and Latrobe, with Kaiden Branan finishing as the top Indiana runner, with a 16.22.60. The girls finished third behind Norwin and Hempfield, led by Kayla Baker, at 20:10.20.
