Coach Mike Tomlin acknowledges that a trip to Ireland isn’t the easiest thing to plan in the middle of a season, but he says the Steelers have ample resources to know what they are getting into this week in Dublin, Ireland against the Vikings.
Tomlin says the Steelers have adjusted their schedule to make it as smooth as possible.
The injury news is just about as expected. Alex Highsmith will miss his second straight full game with a high ankle sprain suffered in Week Two. Tomlin said defensive backs Joey Porter Jr. and DeShon Elliott “certainly have a chance” to play. Both have been out since being injured in Week One. Cornerback Darius Slay will be limited in practice by a leg contusion, but is expected to suit up for the game on Sunday.
Tomlin says getting healthy in the secondary would allow the Steelers to be less basic in the coverage schemes.
Aaron Rodgers has not exactly lit it up for the Steelers, with a yards-per-completion rate that is last in the NFL, and he has been critical of his own play, but Tomlin isn’t buying it.
With Max Scharping out for the season with a torn ACL, the Steelers yesterday worked out retired former Steeler offensive lineman Nate Herbig, the older brother of linebacker Nick Herbig. Nate Herbig retired this summer. He played for the Steelers in 2023 and started two games but missed all of last year with an injury.
